‘The Curse of Oak Island’ Docu-Series Coming to History Channel

The History Channel announced it will premiere its new docu-series The Curse of Oak Island on January 5.

According to Deadline, the announcement was an unusual marketing campaign. “7 MUST DIE BEFORE THE SECRET IS REVEALED…TWO BROTHERS TAKE ON A LEGENDARY TREASURE HUNT,” History said in its announcement.

The docu-series is about the possible booby-trapped island on the south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada, where “the greatest treasure in history” may be hiding. History Channel clarified why “seven must die,” it refers to a “prophecy” where seven people must die before the treasure is found. Six have died searching for the treasure.

History cannot say what is buried on the island, “The brothers need to find the truth before they either run out of money or one of them falls prey to the tragic curse that has already claimed six lives.” It remains a mystery, but hopes are high. Tackling the “greatest treasure in history” next are Rick and Marty Lagina, two Michigan brothers, who have hopes of solving the mystery together.

The Curse of Oak Island premieres on the History Channel on January 5 at 10 PM.
