‘The Connors’ Producers Set Second Comedy At ABC, ‘Bucktown’

Sara Gilbert (The Conners) and Tom Werner (The Conners), both executive producers on ABC’s 2018 sitcom, The Conners, are slated to reunite over their upcoming comedy at the same network entitled Bucktown, according to The Hollywood ReporterAlso from The Conners, Emily Wilson will serve as writer and co-executive producer.

Bucktown follows recently-dumped Amy who, on the eve of her much-awaited promotion, was evicted from her apartment and hopes to find shelter at her mom’s house, in the working-class neighborhood where she was raised. After reconnecting with old family, Amy decides to make her living situation much more permanent when she finds that she may have familial obligations that precede her own. Marc Provissiero (Nobody) and Mandy Summers (Jalen vs. Everybody) will executive produce alongside Gilbert, Werner, and Wilson.

Meanwhile, the network has chosen to scrap two comedies from their 2020 development cycle, including Work Wife and an untitled series starring Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels). The former show, from Karey Burke (Go On), was to be based on the relationship between actors Kelly Ripa (Cheaper by the Dozen) and Ryan Seacrest (American Idol) of the ABC talk show Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Hulu’s Craig Erwich, who also oversees ABC Entertainment, has given pilot orders to the upcoming Wonder Years reboot, Maggie, and an untitled series hailing from Regina Hicks (Camp Rock), alongside Bucktown. The network’s comedy slate for this season will also include Adopted, executive produced by Jimmy Kimmel (Jimmy Kimmel Live!), and a series starring Alec Baldwin (Bettlejuice) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) that is yet to be titled.
