‘The Bold Type’ Renewed For Final Season At Freeform

The Freeform drama entitled The Bold Type is slated to end with its fifth season, according to The Hollywood ReporterStarring Katie Stevens (Faking It) as Jane Sloan, the series is based on the real life of magazine editor Joanna Coles, who wrote for Hearst Magazines and executive produces the show. The Bold Type follows women who work for a magazine in New York while still maintaining their personal lives. The final season, set to air this year, will consist of six episodes.

Despite a decrease in ratings each year after its initial debut, The Bold Type is described as a “brand-defining show” for Freeform,” via The Hollywood ReporterThe final-season renewal is among one of the first decisions made by the new president at the network, with Tara Duncan replacing Tom Ascheim. Speaking about the show’s cancellation, Duncan said, “The Bold Type is brand-defining show for Freeform. It’s been refreshing, relatable, and fun to watch Kat, Jane, and Sutton lean on their friendship to navigate the complexities of modern life. It’s one of my favorite shows, and I am proud that we are giving the series sendoff Wendy, the incredible cast and crew, and the beloved fans all deserve,” via The Hollywood Reporter

Showrunner Wendy Straker (The Client List) resonates with the series, stating, “The Bold Type has been a gift that has truly changed my life. I spent my 20s in New York City working in magazines, so in many ways the show feels very personal to my experiences. I have truly loved writing this show and living in this world. I will miss it terribly, But I am so grateful for the opportunity and glad to know it’s been a comfort to so many people out there,” via The Hollywood Reporter

The series is one of the few scripted originals that remain on Freeform, alongside Grown-ish, Good Trouble, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, Motherland: Fort Salem, and the upcoming Cruel Summer.
