Golden Globes Awards 2024 Television Winners Recap

On January 7th, 2024, the 81st annual Golden Globes premiered for the first big cinematic award ceremony of the new year. Beginning at 5:00 pm PST, the show was hosted by renowned comedian Jo Koy. While the show itself remained the same, the red carpet was not shown on E! like in past years and was instead presented across multiple streaming platforms such as Variety. The award show was aired on CBS as well as streamed on Paramount+.

Variety’s Marc Malkin and ET’s Rachel Smith hosted the pre-show as they interviewed nominees for various categories. Some interviewees that were featured included Matt Bomer, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series for the show Fellow Travelers; Billy Crudup, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor Television for The Morning Show; Natasha Lyonne, who was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series for Poker Face; Kieran Culkin, who was nominated for Best Actor in a TV Series for Succession; and Brie Larson, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Limited Series for Lesson in Chemistry.

At 5:00 pm PST on the dot, Koy walked on stage and immediately began to make jokes surrounding the nominees. However, many of his jokes received mixed signals and resulted in an awkward opening for the show. At one point, Koy even went off-script, saying “I got this gig 10 days ago! You want a perfect monologue? Yo, shut up You’re kidding me right? … I wrote some of these [jokes] and they are the ones you are laughing at.”
