Syfy’s ‘Van Helsing’ Will Haunt Fans For Fifth & Final Season

With the season 4 finale set to drop on December 20, the news of Syfy renewing its vampire drama series, Van Helsing for a fifth and final season came just in time for the holidays!  The 13-episode finale season is set to start production early next year for a 2020 premiere.

Chad Oakes, Executive Producer and Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures said in statement, “We are thrilled to be able to bring the amazing Van Helsing saga to a close.  This could not have been done without the support of our incredible cast, crew, SYFY, Netflix and SuperEcran.”

Van Helsing is a re-imagination of the Dracula lore and stars Kelly Overton, Missy Peregrym, Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Vincent Gale, Rukiya Bernard, Trezzo Mahoro and Aleks Paunovic.  Oakes and Mike Frislev represent Nomadic Pictures which both produces and serves as the studio.  Other executive producers are Evan Tyler, Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell of Echo Lake Entertainment, as well as Daniel March of Dynamic Television, which is handling the worldwide distribution for the series, excluding first run U.S. television and Canada.

The decision to stick a stake in Van Helsing came about largely due to the fact that Syfy’s scripted content has currently been reduced to Wynonna Earp and network veterans The MagiciansVan Helsing will return for its fifth season in January, along with Resident Alien, starring Alan Tudyk, falling shortly thereafter.  Syfy expects to expand to animation, late-night and other fan-focused franchises produced, according to Syfy Wire.

Meanwhile, Syfy’s other fan favorite, The Expanse was cancelled by the network after just three seasons, only to have the show picked up by Amazon Original for fourth season, which premiered on December 13.  Also, Syfy’s Krypton was cancelled only after two seasons, along with its previously announced spinoff Lobo.
