After months of controversy regarding diversity within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Golden Globe nominations for 2022 were announced Monday and yielded 15 nominations by television distributor for HBO Max, followed by 10 for Hulu and Netflix. The HFPA responded to concerns of biases within the group by adding 21 new members, six of them being Black, and hiring a chief diversity officer.
Still, the organization announced its nominations, with uncertainty of whether anyone will actually arrive at the January 9 ceremony to accept them. Titles like Succession, Hacks, and Mare of Easttown guided HBO’s success in the list of nominees for the new streamer, which just launched in May 2020.
Succession was nominated for the Best Drama Series, while actors Brian Cox (Manhunter) and Jeremy Strong (The Gentlemen) were nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in Drama series. Succession‘s Sarah Snook (Prestination) was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, while her costar Kieran Culkin (Home Alone) was nominated for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. The series led nominations by a television series with five nominations, followed by Apple TV+’s The Morning Show and Ted Lasso, each with four nominations. The former series has been nominated for 25 Emmy awards, winning seven, while the latter has been nominated for 20 Emmys, winning seven.
