Steven Soderbergh to direct Cinemax series

Steven Soderbergh certainly has an interesting view of retirement. After announcing that he would no longer be working in show business, he has signed on to direct and produce the Knick, Deadline reports. While he will be stepping away from feature films for the time being, it seems that Soderbergh is still open to working in television as the ten-episode series will air on Cinemax.

Set in New York in 1900, the show will follow the staff of the Knickerbocker Hospital as they work to save lives without modern medicine at their disposal. Clive Owen will star.

Soderbergh’s extensive body of work, from films such as “Ocean’s Eleven” to TV series like K Street, has displayed his proficiency for a variety of genres. His take on this intriguing historical setting is sure to be a unique one.

No premiere date has yet been set for the Knick; however, you can see Soderbergh’s directorial talent at work in Behind The Candelabra this Sunday, May 26 at 9 PM on HBO.
