Less than two months after releasing the second season of She’s Gotta Have It, Netflix cancelled the series. The show was an adaptation of Spike Lee’s first feature film of the same name.
Similar to the 1986 film, the show followed Nola Darling, New York artist and a sex-positive, polyamorous, pansexual black woman as she navigates her life. Nola Darling was played by DeWanda Wise (Someone Great, The Twilight Zone). Further cast members include Anthony Ramos (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Lyriq Bent (Acrimony), Cleo Anthony (Transparent), Chyna Layne (The First Purge), and Margot Bingham (Barber Shop: The Next Cut).

Spike Lee served as the executive producer on the series and directed all 10 episodes of season one. Lee is expected to shop the show to other networks for a possible season three. Lee has yet to make a statement, but following the show’s cancellation, Wise posted an Audre Lorde quote in tribute to her character.

Da 5 Bloods is a film about five black Vietnam War veterans who return to Vietnam in search of the remains of their fallen squad leader and possibly buried treasure. During the search, the heroes face forces of man and nature and have to confront the memories of war.
