Sophia Di Martino Joins Disney+ Limited Series ‘Loki’

Marvel’s limited series Loki has found Tom Hiddleston’s co-star. Sophia Di Martino (Flowers, Yesterday) will be playing opposite of Hiddleston sources confirm to Deadline

One of Deadline’s sources hints that Di Martino could play the female version of Loki. In the comic world, that’s nothing new; Loki identifies as genderfluid and pansexual in the comics. With Thor: Love and Thunder (2021) having a female Thor (Natalie Portman) and Valkyrie (Tess Thompson) being the first openly LGBT+ character in the MCU, Loki possibly having a female counterpart isn’t shocking.

Hiddleston first entered the MCU in 2011 playing Loki, Asgardian god of mischief, in Thor. Originally, Hiddleston auditioned for the role of Thor. Since then, he’s been featured in four other MCU films. He was killed at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. Because of a ‘time heist’ in Avengers: Endgame Loki was able to free himself after the battle in Avengers and escapes with the Tesseract. Marvel has confirmed that this series takes place after Endgame and that it has to do with the multiverse. So far, all that Marvel has let slip about the story is that it follows Loki throughout human history as he becomes an unlikely influencer on historical events.

During San Diego Comic-Com, Hiddleston commented on his character, “You guys saw [the original] Avengers, right? So he’s still that guy. And just about the last thing that happened to him was he got Hulk smashed. So there’s a lot of psychological evolution that is still yet to happen.”

Recently, the Russo Brothers hinted that Captain America could make an appearance in the Loki series.Loki, when he teleports away with the Time Stone, would create his own timeline. It gets very complicated, but it would be impossible for [Cap] to rectify the timeline unless he found Loki.” Joe Russo said to Business Insider.

Loki does not have an official premiere date on Disney+.
