In a major development reported by Deadline, the highly anticipated British Saturday Night Live spin-off, SNL UK, will see Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso, Game of Thrones) and Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who, Sex Education) as hosts. Sky Group released the press release on May 1st, forming the final two episodes of their flagship Sky Original and reconfirming their commitment to high-caliber British talent.
It’s also been revealed that the musical talent for the night will be two artists who are both currently at the top of the British “New Wave” of songwriters, Miles Smith (My Mess, My Heart, My Life, Stargazing) and Holly Humberstone (Cruel World, Paint My Bedroom Black). Smith is known for his folk-pop storytelling and acoustic-pop with a folk-leaning soul sound. Humberstone has reached the peak of her pop-glow up as she graduates from her original gothic melancholy sound to a much more 80’s indie rock pop sound.
Although the series has yet to be renewed for a second season, it was already extended by two extra episodes to make the final two episodes with Waddingham and Gatwa. The season extension, coupled with the great reception, leaves hope for UK fans of the great American format that a second season will materialize. The show has leveled out at around 100,000 live viewers, but peaks out at closer to a million total viewers with repeat views and live streams counted. Not to mention the fact that clips from the show have been going viral online.
Fans looking to catch Waddingham as a host must tune in to the show on May 9th as she will host alongside musical guest Smith. Closing out the entire first run will be Gatwa on May 16th as he takes the stage alongside musical talent Humberstone. Tune into the show live on Sky One at 10 pm or stream on the NOW app.
