Showtime Picks Up Boston Crime Drama ‘City on the Hill’ Starring Kevin Bacon

City on the Hill has found a home in Showtime. They have given the series a twelve episode order. The show is a Boston crime drama that is being executive produced by Ben Affleck, Jennifer Todd, and Matt Damon. The stars of the show will be: Kevin Bacon (The Following) and Aldis Hodge (Underground). The series is expected to premiere in 2019.

The creator/writer for City on the Hill Chuck Maclean (also an executive producer) based his creation on Affleck’s original idea. It is set in the early 1990s when the city (Boston) was filled with violent criminals whom are emboldened by law enforcement where both corruption and racism has become the norm. However, all of this changed because of the “Boston Miracle.” The series is a fictional account of the change assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge) creating an alliance with the corrupt but highly respected FBI veteran Jackie Rhodes (Bacon). Both of them take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown. The case ends up involving the entirety of the criminal justice system of Boston.

City On A Hill will also star: Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom), Mark O’Brien (Halt and Catch Fire), Jill Hennessy (Crossing Jordan), Lauren E. Banks (Instinct), Amanda Clayton (Tyler Perry’s If Loving You Is Wrong), Kevin Chapman (Brotherhood) and Jere Shea (Passion), with Kevin Dunn (Veep) recurring.

David Nevins, president and CEO of Showtime, said, “City On A Hill has the veneer of a classic Boston cops-and-robbers drama, but actually dives head first into challenging the very institutions it depicts,” said David Nevins, President & CEO of Showtime Networks. “In reality, the series is a penetrating look at the larger criminal justice system and those who operate within it, with mesmerizing performances by Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge anchoring the suspense.”

City on a Hill will be joining upcoming Showtime comedy series called, Kidding starring Jim Carrey.
