Showtime has decided to not move forward with a second season of the Jay Pharoah comedy White Famous. The comedy series, which starred Saturday Night Live alum Jay Pharoah, drew small audience of under 2 million viewers in multi-platform airings.
Based on the personal experiences of Jamie Foxx while he was coming up in the business, White Famous hails from Californication creator Tom Kapinos, director Tim Story and Foxx, who was recurring guest star. The Showtime series followed Floyd Mooney (Pharoah) who is a talented, young black comedian, whose star is rising, forcing him to navigate the treacherous waters of maintaining his credibility with his core audience while also striving to crossover into becoming “white famous.”
White Famous premiered in October and consisted of eight episodes. While this series was cancelled, Showtime’s other half-hour comedy SMILF was renewed for a second season about a month ago.
The comedy series was produced by Lionsgate TV and created by Roland Buddy Lewis and Chris Spencer. Foxx also served as executive producer of the show. Kapinos served as showrunner. The cast also included Utkarsh Ambudkar, Cleopatra Coleman, Meagan Good, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Michael Rapaport.
