Showrunner for ‘Invincible’ on Prime Video Addresses Spider-Man Crossover Rumors

Invincible season two premieres on Prime Video on November 3. Rumors have begun swirling that crossover between Invincible and Spider-Man could be a possibility in the new season. According to Comicbook, the heroes teamed up in the comic titled Marvel Team-Up #14 in 2006, which leaves fans of the Marvel universe excited to hear showrunner Simon Racioppa (Spliced) hasn’t declined the rumor as just a rumor.

Invincible started as comic book series written by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye) in 2003 and ran until 2018, releasing 144 issues. The first season of the series on Prime Video was available for streaming in March of 2021. Mark Grayson, played by Steven Yeun (Minari), is a high school student who begins to develop superpowers following his seventeenth birthday. Mark isn’t the only Grayson with superpowers; his father, Nolan Grayson, played by J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man. Their powers are a result of Nolan being a member of the Viltrumite race. Other cast members include Mark Hamill (Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope) as Art Rosenbaum, Seth Rogen (Neighbors) as Allen the Alien, Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Debbie Grayson, Jason Mantzoukas (The Good Place) as Rex Splode, and more.

At San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that the second season of the show will consist of eight episodes. Via Comicbook, in an interview with The Hollywood Handle, Racioppa stated, “I’d love to have crossovers with all, with DC, with Marvel, with all these other characters. I mean… in our show you gotta have to wait and see if that’s a thing that can happen or not. I’d love that to happen, you know, is very tricky nowadays.”

It is unknown how a crossover can be done due to Sony owning the film rights to Spider-Man and crossovers on television proving harder to pull off than in comics. Fans will have to wait and see if Spider-Man will swing his way into the new season of Invincible.

The second season of Invincible premieres on Prime Video this Friday.
