Invincible, an adult animated series created by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Outcast) comes to Amazon Prime Video in spring for subscribers looking to add a new superhero show to their watchlist, according to Deadline. The streamer will make the first three hour-long episodes available on Friday, March 26, Deadline reports. Single-episode drops will allegedly continue on a weekly basis until April 30, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. An extended excerpt from the first episode that features a conversation between the series’ teenage main character Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun, Minari) and his heroic father Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons, Whiplash) was uploaded to YouTube on January 22. Get your first look at Invincible below:
The clip originally debuted to an audience of over 20,000 viewers during the first of what is planned to be many Invincible Friday events hosted by Hector Navarro (The 500 Greatest Films Podcast) for IGN. Kirkman, the mind behind the original Invincible comic book series, spoke to Navarro about what it was like for him to return to that particular moment over fifteen years later. “When I wrote that scene in the comic book I had no idea what was ahead for Mark in the way that I do now, and so it was a lot of fun being able to try and put some little tweaks to that dialogue for long-time fans to be like, ‘Ooh!'” he explained, via IGN. Ahead of its release, Invincible‘s true superpower may be award-winning casting director Linda Lamontagne (Family Guy, BoJack Horseman), who has assembled a roster of A-list performers to give voices to Kirkman’s original characters. Joining Yeun and Simmons are high-profile screen stars such as Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) and Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), as well as veteran voice actors Clancy Brown (SpongeBob SquarePants), Greg DeLisle Griffin (Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated), Mae Whitman (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Last Jedi). Hamill provides the voice of tailor Art Rosenbaum, who can be heard briefly in the clip above.
During the live-stream, Navarro reiterated previously announced information concerning the roles played by Ali and Brown, as well as those voiced by Djimon Hounsou (In America), Ezra Miller (Justice League), Jonathan Groff (Frozen), Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice), Jon Hamm (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), and Nicole Byer (Tuca & Bertie).
