Set Photo Reveals the Return of a Superhero in Amazon’s ‘The Boys’ Season Four

According to Comicbook, set photos of The Boys season four production reveal the return of superhero Black Noir played by Nathan Mitchell (Ginny & Georgia, iZombie) who the viewers had seen die at the end of season three. The Boys has never been shy about killing big-name superheroes and superpowered people, but they have never brought back to life a character that the viewer saw die on screen.

The show introduced Soldier Boy played by Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, Big Sky) in season three as a superhero that had died protecting the state of Ohio. As the season advances, Butcher played by Karl Urban (Star Trek, Lord of the Rings), and Hugie played by Jack Quaid (Scream, Hunger Games), discover that Soldier Boy’s death wasn’t what the public had been told. When talking with the Crimson Countess played by Laurie Holden (The X-Files, The Walking Dead), they discover that Soldier Boy had been sold to the Russians and was taken by them during the 80s. Soldier Boy is found alive by Butcher and the group, and returns to America. This is the closest the show has come to bringing a character back from the dead, a superhero that wasn’t dead but everyone believed he was.

Homelander played by Anthony Starr (American Gothic, Banshee) kills Black Noir in season three when he finds out Noir knew Soldier Boy was alive. Yet, Black Noir is back on set for season four. According to Comicbook, there will be a different character using the Black Noir suit than the character killed by Homelander. The photos on set confirm that Black Noir is coming back.

In a set photo, Black Noir is seen with the other heroes in The Seven including the newest members. The photos prove that Noir still has a role to play with the other heroes in season four.

With the revelation that Black Noir is coming back, fans wonder if the show really killed the character. Because the character wears a suit that covers his entire body and face and doesn’t speak, it is easy for other people to take the mantle of the hero. According to Comicbook, this is the idea that The Boys season four will follow.

The creator Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Timeless) revealed after the end of season three that the show will be bringing back the character and actor Nathan Mitchell that plays Black Noir. It is still mostly unknown what will happen with the character in season four but one thing is certain, he will keep wearing the same iconic suit.

Season four of the show is set to premiere sometime in 2023. The Boys is available to watch on Amazon Prime.
