Seasons Three and Four of ‘Atlanta’ Set to Begin Filming in Europe

Atlanta‘s next two seasons are just around the corner. According to Deadline, the cast of FX’s hit comedy series is traveling to Europe within the next month to begin shooting the show’s third and fourth seasons.

While the pandemic is partially to blame for the significant gap in time between the release of the second and third seasons of Atlanta, FX Chief John Landgraf stated that quarantine allowed Donald Glover (Community) and the writers to complete the show’s next two seasons. According to Deadline, the current goal for the show is to film both seasons somewhat simultaneously and then release them much closer together than the previous seasons. Before the pandemic, season three of Atlanta was intended to release in January 2021 with the fourth season following in fall.

Via Deadline, Glover and the rest of the cast are flying into London on March 23 and filming for seasons three and four are expected to begin on April 5. In addition to London, some of the filming will take place in Amsterdam and Paris. However, according to Deadline, neither season will take place entirely in Europe.

Regarding the upcoming seasons, Landgraf stated, “one of them shoots primarily in Europe and one primarily in Atlanta. It is the intent to shoot them all at one time, back to back. However, the availability has been pushed back because of COVID. That had to do with our sense of when we could return to work safely and then we had to co-ordinate all of the cast for what is shooting two seasons at once. Heartbreakingly for me, it has been pushed back a little bit”. (Deadline)

With only two seasons released thus far, Atlanta has garnered an impressive number of accolades. According to Deadline, Atlanta has won five Primetime Emmys, including Best TV Comedy series during its first season, as well as two Golden Globes including Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

Despite the show’s popular and critical success, Glover, the show’s star and creator, recently signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios. The deal was created with a workaround in order to allow Glover to continue his work on Atlanta.
