Exciting news was shared during AMC’s The Walking Dead: Dead City panel at San Diego Comic-Con this week. For fans of the original The Walking Dead series— Beth Greene will be returning in an alternate reality.

Beth, played by Emily Kinney (The Flash, Ten Days in the Valley), was Lauren Cohan’s (Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries) Maggie’s sister, who died in the mothership show’s fifth season. When asked if any returning characters will make an appearance in season three of TWD: Dead City, Cohan stated that Beth will be making a comeback.

The SDCC panelists included Cohan, showrunner & executive producer Seth Hoffman (House, Prison Break), executive producer Scott M. Gimple (Fear the Walking Dead, TWD: The Ones Who Live), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen, Grey’s Anatomy) who plays Negan, Aimee Garcia (Strip Law, Woke) who plays new character and leader Renata and Raul Castillo (Looking, Task) who plays Dr. Luis.

The Walking Dead: Dead City centers around Maggie raising her son, Hershell, in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan alongside nemesis, Negan. The two come together to build a thriving community in the city.

When asked if Maggie and Negan were going to date, Cohan was despised by the idea ,while Morgan was more supportive of it.

We also learn that Garcia and Castillo’s Renata and Luis will converse in Spanish in the show as a way to avoid eavesdropping around Negan and Maggie who they don’t trust.

Gimple also announced the season four renewal of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The series follows Norman Reedus’ (Helluva Boss, Death Stranding) Daryl stranded in Paris and fight for his way home. mxdwn previously reported the fourth would be its last, however the character could return for future narrative within the universe.

“We adore Norman and the Daryl Dixon character — he’s clearly a fan favorite and people show up for him wherever he is,” said AMC Studios President Dan McDermott in an interview with The Ankler. “We are in active discussions with him right now about what we should and can do for the next iteration of a story in the Walking Dead Universe for Daryl Dixon.”

The Walking Dead: Dead City premieres Sunday, July 26 on AMC and AMC+.
