According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rick and Morty spinoff President Curtis is renewed for second season at Adult Swim before launching the first season. During the San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday, the team behind the series announced that the series is already renewed for second season and is currently in production. The first season of the series will be airing on Sunday, immediately following the season nine finale of Rick and Morty, with episodes set to stream the following day on HBO Max.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the panel included actors Keith David (Hazbin Hotel, The Thing) alongside co-stars Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Encanto) and Jim Rash (The Way Way Back, Sky High), in addition to co-creators and executive producers Dan Harmon (Community, Krapopolis) and James Siciliano (Fashion Victim, South Park: The Stick of Truth). The series is part of the Rick and Morty universe and follows the Commander in Chief, who has been a staple of the flagship series since David’s introduction. Danielle Uhlarik (Solar Opposites, Bootstrapped), Monica Mitchell (Ask the StoryBots, Strange Planet) and Steve Levy (The Ringer, American Underdog) executive produce the show with Harmon and Siciliano.
President Curtis follows President Andre Curtis and his eccentric staff as they tackle small-scale, weird American history and civic threats, such as a cannibalistic Paul Bunyan and paranormal outbreaks.
“President Curtis quickly proved himself worthy of another term!” Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. “With Keith David’s inimitably endearing performance and the creativity of Dan, James and the entire show team, this series and this President are what the people need more of — even if they don’t know it yet.”
“We certainly would like to do a second season,” Siciliano told THR about President Curtis during a recent interview. “Hopefully, we’ll go a long time.”
