It would appear that the horror genre is starting to gain more popularity, with Peacock’s new prequel series, Crystal Lake, having broken major milestone. According to Screenrant, the plot of the series expands on the franchise’s lore, focusing on Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini (Scooby-Doo, Avengers: Age of Ultron), a grieving mother and camp cook who tries to rebuild her fractured life after the death of her son, Jason, played by Callum Vinson (God of War, The Night Agent). Unfortunately, as the camp reopens, secrets of her past life begin to surface, pushing Pamela to go on a killing spree.
The series finale delivered a shocking twist: Jason had not died in the lake due to Project Argonaut, a top-secret Cold War program that granted him powers including super strength and cellular regeneration. The series concludes with Pamela monologuing that the camp, lake, and woods belong to her and her son, before transitioning to the opening of first film.
Reported by Screenrant, Crystal Lake has managed to accumulate a massive 1.3 billion minutes viewed in just 11 days after its release on Peacock. It is not only the viewership that demonstrates the miniseries’ success, as it has also received a solid 76 percent score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Among the list of other projects of the Friday the 13th franchise, Crystal Lake is the only one that has received positive reviews.
All episodes of the Crystal Lake miniseries are available to stream on Peacock.
