Fans of the series Crystal Lake, have been thoroughly enjoying the origin story of notorious slasher Jason Voorhees. According to Deadline, actor Johnathan Tison (Crystal Lake, Fade from View) has expressed his process and thoughts when it came to his secret role in the series. Spoiler warning for those who have not seen the series.
For those who don’t know, Crystal Lake is a series that tells the story about Pamela Voorhees and the origins of Jason Vorhees, the infamous slasher at Camp Crystal Lake. The series also explores the dark secret of Pamela Voorhees and the bodies that begin turning up all across town. In the series, Tison plays the adult Jason Vorhees who is seen in the season finale wearing a burlap sack and dirty clothes that bares a striking resemblance to that of Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th: Part II back in 1981.
We have Tison’s process when he learned that he would be playing the titular character via Deadline, “I started watching when I found out that I was Jason,” he admitted. “I’m sure a lot of people know now that I did not know that I was Jason. I thought that I was a part called Joey in a show called Mama’s Boy, and I was like, ‘OK, sure, I’ll do this.’” While he put in his research to play Jason, Tison “didn’t think of the fandom and the massiveness of the character” until seeing the cast and crew’s reaction. “So, putting the prosthetics on was super cool. I got to look at the mirror and see myself, and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m Jason,’” he explained. “And then everyone else around me is like looking at me like, ‘You’re Jason.’ So, it was really, really cool.” Tison added, “The prosthetic went into my mouth, they had one that went into my eye. I couldn’t hear out of this ear, I couldn’t see out of this eye. I kept thinking if Jason actually had to chase someone down, he’d fail. It would not work out. It was pretty comfortable besides the contact in my eye.”
The cast consists of Linda Cardellini (Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, DTF St. Louis), William Catlett (Forever, Never Let Go), Gwendolyn Sundstrom (I Don’t Think I Believe in Love, I’m Beginning to See the Light), Cameron Scoggins (Summer of 69, Sleep Training), Devin Kessler (Baby Not This Time, Godfather of Harlem), Nick Cordileone (Warrior, Cupid), Daniel Stewart Sherman (The Debut, The Beauty), Danielle Kotch (9-1-1: Nashville, Elsbeth), Bernadette Quigley (Law & Order, Preparation for the Next Life), Callum Vinson (The Night Agent, Playdate with Winnie the Pooh), Joy Suprano (Silent Partner, Don’t Say Good Luck), Neal Huff (The Gilded Age, The Madness), and Phoenix Parnevik (Midnight Drop, Bel-Air).
The series can be currently streamed on Peacock.
