‘Saturday Night Live’ Gives Hallmark Movies Halloween Flair With A New Sketch

Deadline reports that this year, the Hallmark Channel stated that their Countdown To Christmas movie set is to premiere on October 20th, which is only 11 days away from Halloween. Saturday Night Live decided to poke fun at this idea with their very own horror-themed romcom sketch called A Stab At Love. The tagline for this movie proposal read “Only on Hallmark, where boo means boyfriend.”

Saturday Night Live showcased the idea in a trailer, which according to Deadline, shows “Chloe Fineman and host Nate Bargatze. Kelsey (Fineman), a New York writer, returns home where she is ‘reunited with her high school crush turned hometown killer (Bargatze).’”

The trailer plays out with Fineman as Kelsey walking into her home and being confronted with a killer- who just so happens to be her old crush. The trailer then playfully established Kelsey as a New York business woman who tries to get Mark, her crush and serial killer, to leave their town of “Automn Hollow”. From there, Mark helps Kelsey complete her article on the true meaning of Halloween by showing her his murder shed. However, things take a turn when Kelsey is confronted by her fiance and Kelsey has to choose between the stable business man or her serial killing crush. In the end, Mark proposes to Kelsey with a ring on a dead womans hand.

The trailer for Stab At Love combines horror with the romantic comedy tropes that Hallmark is known for, creating a skit that not only matches the Halloween season but also takes jabs at Hallmarks Christmas countdown. Creating a small town feel where a woman is at odds with her success or her affection for a serial killer from her past, Saturday Night Live unveiled the trailer during it’s runtime on the most recent episode of the 49th season.
