Ryan Murphy Reveals Season Seven Theme of ‘American Horror Story’

Just as Americans are trying to get over the 2016 election, it’s back in the news again, but for reasons you may not expect. During last night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy CohenAmerican Horror Story co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy dropped a huge bomb about the upcoming season of the show. According to Murphy, season seven of American Horror Story will be about the 2016 election, with Rolling Stone also reporting the news.

“I don’t have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through. I think that will be interesting for a lot of people,” Murphy said.

When Cohen asked Murphy whether there’s going to be a Donald Trump-like character, all Murphy said was “maybe” without providing any other details.

So far, the only two actors signed on for the new season of the show are American Horror Story mainstays Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters.

So, while Paulson won’t be playing Hillary Clinton in an upcoming season of American Crime Story, it’s still possible she could be playing a Hillary Clinton-type character for season seven of American Horror Story.

Political storylines have been what TV viewers are watching this season, with Saturday Night Live ratings improving this year over last year. Perhaps Murphy is hoping that the same will happen for American Horror Story‘s seventh season.

As for future installments of American Horror Story, the show has been renewed for two additional seasons outside of season seven. One of those seasons could be the Murder House/Coven crossover season, though Murphy confirmed that the season won’t be happening right away.

On Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Murphy also played one of Cohen’s favorite clubhouse games, Plead The Fifth, where Murphy spilled on the rumors of feuding between Ariana Grande and the Scream Queens cast, the Lea Michele and Naya Rivera rumors and his least favorite season of American Horror Story.

Season seven of American Horror Story begins filming in June and will air on FX at some point in September or October.
