Russel Johnson passed away at the age of 89, he was very well known as The Professor on Gilligan’s Island.
According to Deadline, Johnson’s longtime agent, Mike Eisenstadt, confirmed Johnson passed away from natural causes in his Washington state home. Johnson had many TV and Film credits during his long career.
He is most remembered for his role as Professor Roy Hinkley from 1960’s Gilligan’s Island. He was part of the show for all three seasons it aired on CBS (1964-1967). Johnson reprised the role on the 1979 TV movie The Castaways On Gilligan’s Island.
His career started in the early 1950s and his acting film credits include The Stand At Apache River, Tumbleweed, It Came from Outer Space, This Island Earth, Attack Of The Crab Monsters, The Space Children, MacArthur, The Great Skycopter Rescue, The Greatest Story Ever Told and Off The Wall. His TV credits include The Adventures Of Superman, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone, The Jeffersons, MacGyver, Fame and one Newhart episode, where he is seen watching Gilligan’s Island.
