RuPaul’s Biopic Series Is In Development

If you have even flipped past the Logo network, chances are you’re aware of RuPaul: a man known by his work as an actor, host, drag queen, model, author–pretty much anything to do with being an icon.

His current show, RuPaul’s Drag Race centers around that iconic behavior as he endeavors to find America’s next drag superstar. RuPaul even won an Emmy in 2016 for his work on the show, and now TheWrap has reported that RuPaul may soon be working on his own personal series in the next upcoming months.

Warner Brothers Television is in the process of creating a biopic series based on RuPaul’s life. Although the series will be fictionalized, much of the show will take events from RuPaul’s real life, which include his clubbing past and his rise to fame as an international icon. RuPaul himself has already signed on to serve as executive producer, and Gary Lennon will executive produce and write the series.

While the process is in its beginning stages, we do know that the biopic series will be in the format of half-hour dramedy. The series has not been set to the marketplace (or even given an official name), but it does have familiar faces working behind the scenes. World of Wonder will also be producing the series, and they’ve worked with Drag Race in the past. Additionally, Bad Robot (the production company behind Westworld, Lost, and headed by J.J. Abrams) has also agreed to produce the biopic series.
