Ron Moore Creating a Magic Kingdom TV Universe for Disney+

While he is best known for creating Apple TV+’s For All Mankind, Ron Moore (executive producer, Outlander) is a self-professed Disney fan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moore is working on a TV Universe for Disney+ where all the lands of Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park actually exist in an alternate reality.

Even though the Magic Kingdom Universe concept is in the early stages of development, Moore is already being placed as the potential franchise’s overseer. His role over the development process will likely be similar to that of Marvel Studios’ Kevin Fiege (producer, Avengers: Endgame). Beyond his personal love of Disney, the franchise is imagined to be similar to the world storytelling previously seen within Moore and Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first installment in the potential universe will be The Society of Explorers and Adventurers which will establish the reality in which all the six Magic Kindgom lands – Main Street U.S.A., Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square – exist beyond the theme park. While no characters or storylines have been announced, the concept of the series would be to explore characters like Big Thunder Mountain’s prospector or the Jungle Cruise boat captain, via The Hollywood Reporter.

Prior to the reports of the potential Magic Kingdom Universe, Moore has moved his overall deal to 20th Television, which is owned by Disney, after deciding to leave Sony TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His production company, Tall Ship Productions, will allow Moore to produce various projects during his multiyear deal with the family entertainment conglomerate. The Swiss Family Robinson Disney+ series is set to be one of Moore’s first projects as apart of the deal.

Speaking on his move between the two television companies, Moore said “The opportunity for me to get to work on a lot of the classic IP that Disney has and things in their library that meant so much to me as a child growing up and that I have shared with my children ultimately was just something I couldn’t pass up”.
