Rome Flynn Announces Leave From NBC’s ‘Chicago Fire’ After Just Six Episodes

Rome Flynn (How to Get Away with Murder) is ending his brief chapter on NBC’s hit drama series Chicago Fire. According to Deadline, Flynn, who plays firefighter Derrick Gibson, will leave the show after just six episodes.

As per Deadline, Flynn reportedly posted the news on Instagram with the caption, “Curtain call Chicago fire.”

During his last episode, which aired on March 27th, Gibson had a breakdown and confided in Stella, as portrayed by Miranda Rae Mayo (Pretty Little Liars), that he was leaving the station in order to receive treatment after experiencing withdrawals from prescription drugs.

Deadline describes Flynn’s Derrick Gibson as a reserved but self-assured firefighter with an ominous past as an amateur boxer. In the series, Gibson performs an honorable act demonstrating his brave demeanor and strong stature, securing him a spot on the show’s Truck 51 radar.

Flynn is the third member of the Chicago Fire cast to leave the series this season.

Deadline reports that Kara Killmer (Chicago Med), who played Sylvie Brett in the series, has also left the show. During Killmer’s final episode as Sylvie, which aired on Feb. 28, fans saw Sylvie leaving for a new life in Oregon after marrying Matt Casey, as portrayed by Jesse Spencer (House)

Deadline notes that Alberto Rosende (Shadowhunters), who portrays Gallo, also left Chicago Fire during the season 12 debut when he moved to Michigan to be closer to his family.

With many of Chicago Fire’s cast members departing, Deadline also notes the series has welcomed one new actress, Jocelyn Hudon (The Strain), who is slated to have a recurring role.

The network recently greenlit all three of the shows that make up the One Chicago series for the 2024-25 season. The One Chicago series consists of Chicago FireChicago Med and Chicago P.D.

According to Deadline, Chicago Fire was greenlit for season 13, Chicago Med for season 10 and Chicago P.D. for season 12. Universal Television, a subset of Universal Studio Group, produces all three series alongside Wolf Entertainment.
