Star Wars is coming live from New York on Saturday night.
Deadline reports that Star Wars: Rogue One star Felicity Jones is set to host Saturday Night Live‘s first episode of 2017. The Jyn Erso-hosted SNL will air on January 14th and feature musical guest Sturgill Simpson.
NBC made the announcement public during tonight’s episode hosted by Oscar hopeful and Manchester By the Sea star Casey Affleck.
Felicity Jones has had quite a last couple of years, making waves with her performance last year in The Theory of Everything. Along with the major blockbuster hit of Rogue One Jones also stars in J.A. Bayona’s upcoming drama A Monster Calls, which has been receiving rave reviews so far. Musical guest Sturgill Simpson is a Grammy-nominated country music star whose new album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth released last year.
Considering the inevitably huge box office draw of a new Star Wars film, Jones’ hosting gig on SNL will hopefully give the NBC comedy series a welcome ratings boost. The series’ 42nd season got off to great start with its highest ratings since 2008, but recently has seen slip.
