Netflix has some new bloodthirsty wheels. Resident Evil, the popular video game which was made into the billion dollar film franchise, has found a new home at Netflix. The next adaptation has been developed into a live action TV series via Entertainment Weekly

Horror continues to dominate the the television genre. Like the original drenched-in-gore video game, Resident Evil will be a combination of scares and science fiction according to Entertainment Weekly. The new show will tell the story of two very different worlds with one being a coming of age tale. When teenage sisters Jade and Billie move to New Raccoon City danger arrises. In this dark place, they stumble upon secrets that threaten not only the future, but life itself. Fast forward several years to a different world where monsters walk amongst humans. Billions of them. Jade strives to survive in this new found dystopia infested with dangerous creatures and a deadly virus.

There will be plenty of horror veterans on hand to make sure the upcoming series is as terrifying as possible. The creator of the show is Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) and it will be executive produced by Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead). Hughes will also serve as director for the first two episodes, so make sure to keep the lights on.

In a statement, Dabb’s expressed his excitement about the upcoming series and his history with the gory video game according to Entertainment Weekly: “Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time…I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world.”

Absence really does make the heart grow fonder. The original Resident Evil video game was released in 1996, yet it is ever evolving. The upcoming series will consist of eight hour long episodes with no premiere date released yet.
