Prime Video Renews ‘Young Sherlock’ For Season Two

It’s official; Deadline reports that Young Sherlock has been confirmed for a second season by Prime Video, with creator Guy Ritchie (Snatch, The Gentlemen) returning to direct the upcoming season’s first episode. The series has been a consistent hit for Prime Video, hitting 45M viewers and topping the platform’s charts in 95 countries, making it one of Prime Video’s top 10 Originals ever.

Inspired by author Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes book series, Young Sherlock follows the origin story of the iconic British consulting detective – Mouthy and rough around the edges, 19-year-old amateur investigator Sherlock Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin; After, The Loneliest Boy in the World) sets out to solve his first murder mystery as a student at Oxford University. Along the way, Holmes befriends and is joined by James Moriarty (Dónal Finn; The Wheel of Time, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore) in his search for answers.

Notable stars in the first season, via Deadline, are Joseph Fiennes (Risen, The Handmaid’s Tale), Oscar-winner Colin Firth (Operation Mincemeat, The Staircase), Max Irons (The Riot Club, Red Riding Hood), Natasha McElhone (Ronin, Solaris), and Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem, On a Whim). At this time, there is no casting news on season two.

Aside from stepping into his role as director once more, Deadline reports that Ritchie will also act as an executive for this second season. Other EPs on the show include Ivan Atkinson (Wrath of Man, The Covenant), Dhana Rivera Gilbert (Vinyl, Fringe), Simon Kelton (Eddie the Eagle, Jeff Lowe’s Metanoia), Marc Resteghini (Catwoman, Keeping Up with the Joneses), and Colin Wilson (Amistad, Jurassic Park).

Young Sherlock was co-created and executive produced by Ritchie and showrunner Matthew Parkhill (Deep State, The Caller). Motive Pictures, a UK-based label backed by Fifth Season, produces the series with Amazon MGM Studios. From Deadline, Peter Friedlander (Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios) said:

Young Sherlock has that rare magic – millions of fans around the world aren’t just watching a detective story, they’re falling in love with the origin of an icon. Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come. We can’t wait to see where they take him next in Season [two].”
