Prime Video Releases Trailer For ‘Mr. And Mrs. Smith’

Created by Francesca Sloane (The First, Atlanta) and Donald Grover (Community, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), the upcoming television series Mr. and Mrs. Smith is set to premiere on February 2nd. The series is based on the film of the same name released in 2005, which starred Brad Pitt (Bullet Train, Fight Club) and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent, Original Sin). According to Comicbook.com, Prime Video has released a trailer in anticipation of the series’ debut.

The trailer, which can be viewed below, depicts two spies John Smith, played by Grover, and Jane Smith, played by Maya Erskine (Blue Eye Samurai, PEN15), as they create a fake life together and embark on various missions. Official key artwork of the main characters can be seen in Prime Video’s press release.

According to the press release, the synopsis for Mr. and Mrs. Smith states, “In this version, two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?”

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, co-creator Sloane wrote about the series in a letter. As a part of this letter, she explained how the series differs from the 2005 film, writing, “No one would need a show that retold the same blockbuster movie. But what we set out to do was to make something wholly original. This show is about a relationship, it’s about being clumsy humans. It’s about being relatable. John and Jane are offered the chance of a lifetime, whole new identities, an opportunity to be super spies.”

The series will consist of eight episodes in total, which will all be released at once.
