Per Deadline, DC studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran discuss the existing and upcoming DC television series. Moving forward, the two are planning to release two animated and two live-action series per year exclusively on Max. Although, their priority for this year is getting season two of Peacemaker released in August. Television shows that were mentioned in the Deadline article include Blue Bettle animated series, Booster Gold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, Peacemaker, The Penguin and Waller.
Via Deadline, the Blue Bettle animated series will take place after the movie’s events and is in the process of getting greenlit.
Per Deadline, Safran stated he is currently in the process of finding creator and showrunner for the live-action Booster Gold that is passionate about both the series and the character. According to the official DC Comics website, Booster Gold is “a scoundrel from the future intent on making a name for himself in the past, Booster Gold has nevertheless exhibited his share of heroism.”
Lanterns will be premiering early 2026. Per mxdwn, Gunn goes into detail about the excitement Laterns’ tone has over Superman and how the two characters will coexist in the live-action series. Additionally, Mxdwn reports that the animated Green Latern series My Adventures with Green Lantern will be taking place in the same universe as My Adventures With Superman.
As reported by Deadline, Paradise Lost is still in the works and has no writer at the moment. Previously, Safran described the series as a “Game of Thrones-ish story about Themyscira, the home of the Amazons and the birthplace of Wonder Woman.”
Peacemaker, the focus of the 2025 agenda, will be premiering its season two in August. As noted by mxdwn, the second season of the series was previously on hold because Gunn didn’t have time. New photos and first footage of Peacemaker can be explored on mxdwn.
The Penguin has yet to be renewed for a second season. Safran states it is because, “There’s a lot of moving pieces, including Colin Farrell (The Batman) himself.”
Deadline states that despite impacts of the actors and writers strike, Waller is still being worked on. The show, starring Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder, The Help), is a spinoff of Peacemaker and Suicide Squad.
