Peacock Drops ‘Punky Brewster’ Revival Series Trailer

Holy Macanoli, indeed! Peacock released trailer for the Punky Brewster revival series. The revival of the beloved 1908s sitcom finds Punky (Soleil Moon Frye), now a grown woman, learning how to navigate life as a single mother of three, according to Deadline.

In the original series, Punky was a remarkably bright child who was abandoned by her parents until Henry Warnimont (George Gaynes), a photographer, took her in as a foster child. Now, the revived series picks up as Punky meets Izzy (Quinn Copeland), a foster girl that reminds Punky of herself when she was younger.

Soleil Moon Frye is reprising her role as the titular Punky, who is recently divorced and now a professional photographer herself. Punky’s best friend from the original sitcom, Cherie, will also be apart of the revival with Cherie Johnson reprising her role.

Outside of the best friend duo, the updated Punky Brewster series will have a new cast of characters including Punky’s ex-husband Travis (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Izzy (Quinn Copeland), Diego (Noah Cottrell), Daniel (Oliver De Los Santos), and Hannah (Lauren Lindsey Donzis), via Deadline.

In addition to returning to her role as Punky, Frye serves as an executive producer on the revival along with David Duclon (producer, Family Matters), creator of the original Punky Brewster. Jimmy Fox (executive producer, The Arrangement) and Steve and Jim Armogida (executive producers, School of Rock) will also be executive producing, with the latter two writing the revival series. (Deadline)

The original series premiered in 1984, running for a total of four seasons – two on NBC, two in syndication. In it’s original run, the series won three Emmys for Outstanding Children’s Program.

Peacock‘s revival isn’t the first time Punky has been seen since the original show’s television run. It’s Punky Brewster, an animated spinoff, ran for two seasons. Like its predecessor, the spinoff garnered two Emmy’s in the same category, according to Deadline.

All ten episodes of the Punky Brewster revival series will launch on Peacock Thursday, February 25. The original series is also streaming on the platform in it’s entirity.
