According to Comicbook, Paramount+ has removed all episodes of the adult animated series South Park from its streaming platform. This news comes after the series announced it was pushing back its upcoming premiere from July 9th to July 23rd. Creators of the series Trey Parker (Team America: World Police) and Matt Stone (BASEketball), didn’t mince words regarding why the show was delayed, stating that the licensing fight between Paramount and HBO Max was the key cause. This ongoing struggle ramped up when Paramount decided to erase all episodes of the adult animation on their streaming platform.
As per Comicbook, when the series is searched for on Paramount+ all the installments of South Park’s previous seasons are no longer available. Although this is the case the specials for the series including South Park: Post-COVID, South Park: The Streaming Wars, South Park: The End of Obesity, and South Park: Joining The Panderverse, are still available for fans to consume. The same goes for the South Park film, South Park: Bigger Longer, & Uncut. Paramount has officially been contacting subscribers regarding the controversy and has given an official statement that can be read below.
The official statement by Paramount via Comicbook, reads as follows: “We understand your frustration. Unfortunately, South Park has come to the end of the window in which we have the rights to carry it on Paramount+ which is why it has now had to come down from the platform. If you wish to cancel your Paramount+ subscription and forfeit the promotion applied to your account, please confirm the email adddress associated with the account you wish to close. Once we receive your information, we’ll respond with confirmation that your subscription has been cancelled.”
According to Comicbook, when the delay for the series happened, creators Parker and Stone did not hesitate to speak their mind on the matter. They stated that “This merger is a sh**show and it’s f***ing up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”
