According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second season of Andy Samberg’s (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, That’s My Boy) Digman! has been delayed to debut on a different date. The series has been pushed two weeks and will now premiere on Wednesday, July 23, right after South Park at the 10:30 p.m. time slot.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, South Park’s 27 season was also delayed on Wednesday due to an on-going streaming rights battle between the creators, Trey Parker (South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut) and Matt Stone (Team America: World Police), and the channel’s parent company, Paramount Global. Parker and Stone are not happy about the delay, and they made that known.
“In response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for South Park Trey Parker & Matt Stone said via The Hollywood Reporter — ‘This merger is a shit show and it’s fucking up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow,’” a tweet posted on Wednesday to South Park’s official X profile reads.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, South Park and Digman! were supposed to premiere their new seasons on Wednesday, July 9. The merger stated by Parker and Stone refers to David Ellison’s (Flyboys) Skydance and Paramount Global, which is set to close by July 6. The creators of South Park are both content that incoming Skydance-Paramount president is attempting to tank outside bids for the next round of the series’ digital rights, which are currently still under Paramount for two more years. Parker and Stone believe Shell wants to make sure the combined company hangs on to South Park’s library and new episodes, regardless of the financial ramifications for their joint venture with Paramount, South Park Digital Studios.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Digman! is an animated series that is set in a world where archaeologists are celebrities and it follows a retired adventurer haunted by the death of his wife Bella.
