Paramount Network’s ‘Heathers’ Gets a New Premiere Date

Paramount Network’s Heathers remake has a new premiere date. It was announced through Instagram that the dark comedy series which is based off of the cult film will air on Tuesday July 10th. The original premiere date for the series was on March 7th. However because of the Parkland, Florida high school shooting they have decided to delay the premiere for the series.

Paramount Network said, “original series “Heathers” is a satirical comedy that takes creative risks in dealing with many of society’s most challenging subjects ranging from personal identity to race and socio-economic status to gun violence. While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year.”

Paramount’s remake of the film into a series was created by Jason Micallef. It is a pitch-black anthology comedy series which is set in present day. Veronica Sawyer (the good girl) has to deal with a vicious group of “Heathers.” The new group of Heathers are: Melanie Field, Jasmine Mathews, and Brendan Scannell. Veronica will be played by Grace Victoria Cox and J.D. will be played by James Scully. Shannen Doherty whom played in the film as Heather Duke will also join the series as a guest star. The also stars of the series will be: Selma Blair, Kurt Fuller, Jamie Kaler, Wallace Langham, Drew Droege, Travis Schuldt. and Deanna Chang.

Heathers was originally a film written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann. The main character in the film was Veronica (Winona Ryder) and her boyfriend J.D. (Christian Slater) who was a rebel. The film dealt with their trials and tribulations that they went through with the social hierarchy in high school.
