HBO’s straight-to-series drama Lovecraft Country has added new star. Jonathan Majors (Hostiles) will star opposite Jurnee Smollett-Bell in the adaptation of Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel.
Majors will portray Atticus Black, a Korean war vet, who takes a roadtrip with his best friend Letitia (Smollett-Bell) and Uncle George to find his father. Set in 1950s Jim Crow America, the novel is about overcoming racism and finding ways to survive through the hostilities. The series will be brought to life by Oscar winner Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Misha Green and Warner Bros Television.
As a rising star who was cast in the ABC miniseries When We Rise, Majors went on to graduate from Yale School of Drama. Most recently he shared the big screen with Christian Bale in Hostiles. He has been cast in his first leading role in Plan B’s Last Black Man in San Francisco.
Lovecraft Country will be executive produced by Peele and Green, Abrams, Ben Stephenson, David Knoller and Yann Demange of Bad Robot.
