Paramount+ Continues Streaming Rollout with Casting of Matthew Goode for ‘The Offer’

Paramount+ is throwing out all the stops for its first year of streaming. The new kid on the block of cable cutting options has been attempting to catch up on material with a slew of shows in production.

One of the streamer’s biggest upcoming projects is its dated piece surrounding the development of the 1972 film The Godfather, titled The Offer. Via Variety, The ten episode limited series will chronicle the hardships of creating one of the most acclaimed movies ever made through the eyes of producer Albert S. Ruddy. The show will take the audience behind the scenes of the movie, showing Ruddy’s dealings with famous director Francis Ford Coppola and the bevy of talented actors including Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and Diane Keaton.

The show was lit up in controversy after the casting of Armie Hammer (Social Network) for Albert Ruddy had to be botched due to the allegations that surfaced against him. Trying to get back on track, the show recast the role, going with another veteran, Miles Teller (Whiplash).

With the main character casting now in place, Paramount+ has begun shoring up the other openings. It was announced today that Matthew Goode (Downton Abbey) has taken on the role of another producer for The Godfather, Robert Evans. The veteran actor will be extremely comfortable with the challenge of playing a real person after his brilliant turn as Lord Snowden in The Crown.

At the moment, Goode and Teller are the only castings announced publicly so fans will have to wait for big roles like Marlon Brando and Al Pacino to be filled. The show is still very early in development so patience will be key.
