New ‘Loki’ Teaser Confirms God of Mischief’s Gender Fluidity

Eagle eyed fans on Twitter spotted brand new information regarding the God of Mischief, Loki Laufeyson (played by Tom Hiddleston, Avengers: Infinity War), in a new teaser for the next Marvel and Disney+ series, Loki. According to TVLine, a line in the villain’s Time Variance Authority’s (TVA) arrest report lists him as gender fluid.

Due to Loki’s ability to shape-shift into anything and anyone he desires, the confirmation of his ability to switch genders is not a major surprise. However, it does bring canonical knowledge of Loki’s gender fluidity from the comics and into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to TVLine, a 2014 comic line made reference to Odin’s son, daughter, and his “child who is both”, describing Thor, Hela, and Loki, respectively.

Via TVLine, the TVA document lists Loki’s sex as “FLUID”, potentially hinting at the kind of mischief Loki will get into in the new series. The series, which is set to be Loki’s first solo project and the first time he will be the titular character in a MCU project. Loki will mark Hiddleston’s seventh appearance as Thor’s adopted brother. He first appeared in the role in Thor, and was last seen in Avengers: Endgame, when his 2012 counterpart stole the Tesseract and disappeared into the timelines.

Now, in Loki, he is taken into the TVA’s custody where he is tasked by Agent Mobius (played by Owen Wilson, Night at the Museum) to assist in fixing the timelines. Hiddleston and Wilson’s characters will be joined by additional cast members, Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country) who is playing TVA judge Ravonna Renslayer, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Morning Show), who will play TVA hunter B-25. Sophia Di Martino (Flowers) and Richard E. Grant (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) will also star in series, but their roles are currently unknown, via TVLine.

Loki will begin premiering Wednesday, June 9, with subsequent episodes dropping on Disney+ every Wednesday.
