Paddy Considine to Star in ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘House of the Dragon’

The highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon just released some big news. It has cast Paddy Considine (The Outsider) as one of its leading men. Considine will be portraying King Viserys Targaryen via The Hollywood Reporter

House of the Dragon was announced as a straight to series order at HBO in 2019. The series will be 10 episodes long, taking place 300 years before there was even a whisper of a Ned Stark or Jon Snow. The prequel will tell the familiar story of kings fighting for ultimate power.

The fantasy epic will depict Viserys as a newly appointed king. In a description released by The Hollywood Reporter, he is described as: “King Viserys Targaryen, chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.” This bit of information is welcome news to Game of Thrones fans as the upcoming sequel has been surrounded by mystery.

As Considine is the first major casting announcement made public for House of the Dragon, he took to Instagram to share a cryptic message with his followers. He posted a photograph of the notorious Iron Throne, a coveted seat that Game of Thrones revolved around. Proof that a photograph is worth a thousand words, see his post below:

The upcoming series will have several Game of Thrones veterans working behind the scenes. House of the Dragon is co-executive produced by author of the Game of Thrones book series George R. R. Martin, Ryan Condal (Colony), Vince Gerardis (Game of Thrones), Sara Lee Hess (Orange is the New Black), and Miguel Sapochnik (Altered Carbon). Sapochnik will also serve as co-showrunner along with Condal. It was co-created by Martin and Condal.
