OWN’s Critically-Acclaimed ‘David Makes Man’ Announces S2 Premiere Date With Teaser Starring Kwame Patterson

Two years after its season one run, OWN’s David Makes Man will finally return this summer. According to Deadline, the second season of the Peabody Award-winning drama will premiere on June 22 at 9 p.m. ET. The network released a first look of the new season with a teaser trailer. Preview of what’s to come in the video below:

The coming-of-age series stars Akili McDowell (Billions, Criminal Activities) as David, a young Florida teen working to rise above the predicaments that commonly befall young black men in his neighborhood. As David possesses the skill and characteristics to attend a prestigious high school, those same abilities could help him excel in the streets, but at what cost.

According to Deadline, the second season is set years into the future, following David as a 30-year-old businessman. Kwame Patterson (Snowfall, 4 Life) will play the role of adult David, who is handed a wonderful opportunity to help the community that raised him. But David will struggle with old habits that could prevent him from experiencing the growth he needs to find success.

Patterson will be joined by McDowell as well as other returning cast members, via Deadline. They include Cayden K. Williams (Girls Trip, Beautifully Broken), Alana Arenas (Mercury in Retrograde, Electric Dreams), and Travis Coles (Bob Hearts Abishola, Together Together) who all will be reprising their season one roles. New cast member Arlen Escarpeta (Whitney, Final Destination 5) will be portraying adult JD, David’s younger brother.

According to Deadline, the series is executive produced by creator Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight, Buck) and showrunner, Dee Harris-Lawrence (For One Night, Saving Grace). Paige Fright’s Mike Kelley (What/If, Revenge) and Melissa Loy (The Beautiful Life: TBL, Revenge) also serve as executive producers along with Oprah Winfrey’s (The Women of Brewster’s Place, The Butler) Harpo Films and Michael B. Jordan’s (Without Remorse, Just Mercy) Outlier Society.

Season one of David Makes Man is available to stream on HBO Max.
