Marvel has released uncensored and censored trailers for its upcoming Hulu comedy and action series entitled M.O.D.O.K., according to ComicBook. The series stars supervillain MODOK, voiced by Patton Oswalt (The Goldbergs), as he pursues his dreams of ruling the Earth while also working towards fixing his broken family. The debut season will see MODOK attempting to find his footing back at the top amidst a divorce and corporate mayhem in his evil organization, A.I.M.
The series stars Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Aimee Garcia (George Lopez), Wendi McLendon-Covey (The Goldbergs), Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation), Beck Bennett (Saturday Night Live), Jon Daly (Kroll Show), and Sam Richardson (Veep), alongside Oswalt. M.O.D.O.K. is executive produced by Jordan Blum (American Dad!) and Oswalt, who also serve as creators. Expected to debut on May 21, both trailers of the comedy give recaps of the villain’s origin story and how he ventures to take over the world while simultaneously mending old wounds. However, the uncensored version includes a clip of rather vulgar language that the censored version does not.
At New York Comic Con last year, Blum emphasized how an animated world allowed writers more freedom with satire and comedy, “We got lucky because our show is its own animated world. It’s satire of all stuff that’s come before it, like the comics and movies. We kind of took an attitude that was similar to Into the Spider-Verse or LEGO Batman, where it all counts and let’s pull what we need for the stories and then carve out our own little section with AIM and MODOK, and Marvel was great about giving us a lot of the toys,” via ComicBook.
Oswalt added on, “I cannot believe the Marvel toybox stuff they let us play with. We pitched some characters, some even in the X-Universe and we were like ‘We don’t know if they’re gonna say yes to this,’ and they were like ‘Yeah, go ahead,'” via ComicBook.
