‘Only Murders in the Building’ Teaser Trailer: Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez Star in Hulu Limited Series

Steve Martin (It’s Complicated) and Martin Short (The Morning Show) sleuth up a storm in the new teaser trailer for their upcoming limited comedy series, Only Murders in The Building, at Hulu. Arriving on the streamer August 31, the comedy duo’s partner in crime is played with stealth by Selena Gomez (Spring Breakers), via Indiewire

Only Murders in the Building details the lives of the various tenants living in a New York City apartment complex following a violent death that occurred in the building. Reminiscent of films such as Clue, three tenants decide to take matters into their own hands and solve the crime. They’re played with questionable sleuthing skills by none other than Martin, Short, and Gomez, and they’re convinced a murder took place. In this modern day and age where true crime podcasts are devoured at a rapid pace, the trio decide that they too can be famous podcasters and begin to investigate the killing. As Martin obviously states in the trailer: “Every true crime story is actually true for someone.”

As the three begin to interview various tenants and explore the history of their building, they soon discover a web of secrets and lies. The trailer begins with Martin asking question about his own neighbors, “You see many of them every day, but have you ever wondered what goes on behind their doors?” The roster of actors playing the neighbors is filled to the brim with renowned comedians, including Nathan Lane (The Birdcageand Amy Ryan (The Office), who both make cameos in the trailer.

In correlation of the teaser trailer being released, Gomez also posted on Instagram, promoting the series: “Everybody has a secret. Watch Only Murders in the Building on 8/31  on hulu!”

Martin is the series co-creator alongside John Hoffman (Elaine Stritch at Liberty). The pair executive produce alongside Short and Gomez in addition to Dan Fogelman (This is Us), Jamie Babbitt (But I’m a Cheerleader), and Jess Rosenthal (This is Us). The first episode of Murders in the Building will premiere on Hulu August 31, followed by new episodes weekly.
