It’s a sad day for fans of Amber Ruffin. According to Deadline, NBC has decided not to move forward with Non-Evil Twin, multi-camera comedy pilot. The show would star Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show, Central Park), the late-night star, who was also going to executive produce.
According to Deadline, Non-Evil Twin was one of the two comedy pilots ordered by NBC for the pilot season. Last Friday, the other pilot St. Denis Medical, a single-camera show, was picked to become a series. As for the two drama pilots, a decision has yet to be made as to which one will be moving forward. One of the pilots is a medical drama named Wolf that stars Star-Trek alum Zachary Quinto (American Horror Story, Invincible). The other pilot has no official name, but Jenna Bans (Good Girls, Desperate Housewives) and Bill Krebs (Franklin & Bash, Ugly Americans) wrote it.
Non-Evil Twin was going to follow a woman, played by Ruffin, who is forced to step into her sister’s role as the leader of a Fortune 500 company despite knowing little about business and even less about the way her sister has been running the corporation. Ruffin wrote the pilot alongside Kenny Smith (The Game, Black-ish).
The pilot was executive produced by Ruffin and Smith alongside Jenny Hagel (Impractical Jokers, The Amber Ruffin Show). Olivia Morris (American Dad!, The Last O.G.) also served as a co-executive producer. The studio behind the series would have been Universal Television.
While Ruffin is best known for The Amber Ruffin Show, she has also served as a writer for a slate of other TV series and TV specials. Besides her show, she has written over a hundred episodes for the Late Night with Seth Meyers Show and a few episodes for A Black Lady Sketch Show. Ruffin has also written for various award shows including the Tony Awards, the Golden Globes, and the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Unfortunately, Non-Evil Twin will not premiere any time soon unless picked up by another network, which seems unlikely. You can watch Ruffin in her show The Amber Ruffin Show.
