Nicole Kidman and Maya Erskine Set to Helm HBO Max Limited Series ‘The Perfect Nanny’

According to Deadline, Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies, The Northman) and Maya Erskine (PEN15, Man Seeking Woman) are set to star in and executive produce for the original HBO Max limited drama series, The Perfect Nanny. Erskine is also the creator and writer of the show, which is based on the book of the same name by Leïla Slimani (The Country of Others, Sex and Lies).

The Perfect Nanny tells the story of a young, seemingly perfect nanny who is employed by a busy couple with two young children, though her supposedly hospitable personality is soon exposed to have a much more sinister origin than initially believed. Kidman and Per Saari (Nine Perfect Strangers, Roar) executive produce for the series under the banner of Kidman’s Blossom Films, while Erskine also executive produces in tandem with Pascal Chaucheteux (Holy Spider, Sorry We Missed You) for Why Not Productions and Phillipe Godeau (To The End of the World, Le Clan) for Pan-Européenne.

As written by Deadline, The Perfect Nanny was originally published by Gallimard in France in 2016 and is inspired by the grizzly real life events of the 2012 Krim children murder case, in which New York nanny Yoselyn Ortega stabbed to death the two young children left in her care, Lucia and Leo Krim. The translation rights for the story sold in a bidding war in over forty territories, making it an international bestseller.

The Perfect Nanny has been widely praised for its in-depth exploration of race and class divisions in America and was awarded France’s highest literary prize, the Prix Goncourt. The 2018 American edition of the novel made the New York Times Book Review’s Ten Best Books of the Year list while in the UK, the book (also titled Lullaby), won Debut of the Year at the British Book Awards 2019.

So far, HBO Max has yet to confirm when an announcement for the release date of The Perfect Nanny can be expected.
