New Spin-Off Series of ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Dubbed ‘Knuckles’ In Production with Idris Elba & Kid Cudi

A spin-off series of the popular video game movies Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to Paramount + and will follow the fiery red echidna Knuckles as the main protagonist and title role according to Deadline. Star Idris Elba, (Thor, The Suicide Squad) making his debut as Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will return to voice act for the series along side some additional voice actors old and new.

Deadline reports, Edi Patterson (Knives Out, The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh, Bloods), Scott Mescudi aka Kid Cudi (X, Don’t Look Up), and Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso, Family Tree) are confirmed to join the Sega project. Returning characters such as Adam Pally (Iron Man 3, Dirty Grandpa) as Wade Whipple and Tika Sumpter (Mixed-ish, Ride Along) as Maddie are scheduled to guest star in the upcoming series.

Knuckles is currently in production and is set to have a comedic and action derived adventure of self discovery for the boxing glove warrior. He agrees to teach his protege and Sonic’s best friend, Wade Whipple, how to defend himself as well as his friends and family from more ‘Egg-istential’ threats. The storyline will take place after the events in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 but before the occurrence of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The future film is planned to debut on December 20, 2024.

The creative team behind the Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy will also be involved with Knuckles including director Jeff Fowler (Where The Wild Things Are, Gilmore Girls) along with executive producers Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious), Toby Ascher (Spenser Confidential, Battle Los Angeles), John Whittington (Lego Batman Movie, Green Eggs and Ham), and Toru Nakahara (Street of Rage, Sonic Drone Home) with Elba receiving an executive credit as well.

Movie directors and writers who will also be involved are Ged Wright (Man of Steel, Iron Man 2), Brandon Trost (This is the End, Bros), Jorma Taccone (Hot Rod, MacGruber), Carol Banker (The X-Files, Dogma), Brian Schacter (22 Jump Street, The Internship), and James Madejski (Renfield, Dolittle).

With Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earning over $405.4 million as total box office earnings, Knuckles is sure to draw fans in and become a speedy success on Paramount +.
