New Sci-fi Series ‘Atlantis’ to be Co-Produced by BBC America

BBC America has announced they will be co-producing a new sci-fi series entitled Atlantis, which is set to air next fall, reported Indiewire.

The fantasy drama was created by Howard Overman, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps. Overman is the creator and writer for supernatural television series Misfits and Merlin. Murphy and Capps also served as creators for Merlin, according to IMDB.

Atlantis will follow main character Jason on his adventure when he discovers the famous mythological underwater city. Indiewire noted the series is “set in a time of legendary heroes and mythical creatures and will re-imagine the always-popular sci-fi fodder of Greek mythology for a new generation.”

Creator and executive producer Murphy stated, “This ambitious new series will see us push production values to the limit as we endeavor to bring the epic world of Atlantis to life. By combining state-of-the-art technology with timeless film-making techniques, we want every episode to have the star quality of a Hollywood movie,” also noted by Indiewire.

Atlantis is currently filming on locations in both Wales and Morocco, according to Indiewire. BBC America is a co-producer along with Urban Myth Films and BBC Cymru Wales. The series will begin this fall and will be part of BBC America’s “Supernatural Saturday” line up.
