New Disney+ British Comedy Series Starring Jemaine Clement and Nicola Walker

The Hollywood Reporter states that Jemaine Clement, known for What We Do in the Shadows and Moana, and Nicola Walker, known for The Split and Unforgotten are leading six-part Disney+ original series with a working title: Alice and Steve.

From the award-winning production company Clerkenwell Films, as mentioned by THR, known for Baby Reindeer and The End of the F***ing World, Alice and Steve is a story of lifelong best friends who watch their world crumble when a middle-aged Steve starts dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter, Izzy, played by Yali Topol Margalith, known for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.

According to THR, this show has a working title, ‘Alice and Steve.’ The story is centered around lifelong best friends who see their world cave in when middle-aged Steve starts dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter.

THR states that Joel Fry, best known for Cruella and Game of Thrones, is starring as Alice’s husband Daniel, alongside Tyrese Eaton-Dyce, best known for Sherwood and How to Have Sex, plays her son Dom, and winner of the Olivier Award, Marcia Warren, best known for The Crown and Leap Year, is cast as Alice’s mother, Val. More cast members include Eilidh Fisher, known for Dope Girls and The Outrun, and Ebony Aboagye, known for The Lost Girls and Invasion

As mentioned by THR, filming has begun in London with Tom Kingsley (Black Pond, Stath Lets Flats) is set to direct the show, and executive producer Sophie Goodhart (Sex Education, My Blind Brother). Andy Baker (The End of the F***ing World, Lovesick), Petra Fried (MisfitsThe End of the F***ing World), and Ed Macdonald (The End of the F***ing WorldBaby Reindeer) will executive produce for Clerkenwell Films, and the producer is Fran du Pille (The Sixth CommandmentThe Outlaws). The executive director of scripted at Disney, Lee Mason (The End of the F***ing World, A Thousand Blows), will be the executive producer for Disney+. Additionally, Clerkenwell Films is one of the production labels owned by BBC Studios. 

According to a plot synopsis provided by THR, “their once rock-solid friendship is turned upside down and tested to its limits — threatening their families, futures and everything in between.”

THR asked Walker about her thoughts on this new series and her role; “I’m thrilled to be stepping into the fabulous world of friendship, motherhood, marriage frantic revenge and fierce love that Sophie Goodhart has created, and to be doing it with Jemaine Clement is completely joyful.”

Clement shares to THR that he relates to Steve; “he’s classy, stylish and an all-round good guy — except for when he isn’t.  I’m excited to be working with the wonderful Nicola Walker and seeing how Steve and Alice’s relationship descends into absolute chaos.”

Release dates have not been announced yet, but more is to come.
