Netflix’s Live Action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Debuts At Number One

According to ComicBook, Avatar: The Last Airbender has officially debuted in the top spot on Netflix’s top ten TV shows list. The series is a live action adaptation of the 2005 Nickelodeon animated series.

After being released on Feb. 22nd, the series is already showing strong potential for getting picked up for a second season. According to ComicBook, the first few weeks of a series release is the determining factor of a renewal of a Netflix show. The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes has given the series a 75 out of 100, justifying the series debuting in the number one spot.

According to ComicBook, the television critics, however, haven’t had the same as fans have felt about the series, providing mixed reviews. Rotten Tomatoes has given the series a 60% and IMDb has given the series a 7.5/10.

ComicBook.com reviewed the series in a different light; “Avatar: The Last Airbender deserves to move forward. The live-action adaptation is the antithesis of Hollywood’s blighted attempt from years ago. The adaptation takes big risks with its changes, but they all serve the story in an authentic way. Despite its gritty aesthetic, Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender realizes a new and faithful take on Nickelodeon’s greatest series, but if you are an Avatar purist, this bold adaptation might not be up your alley.”

The series stars Kiawentiio (Anne with an E, Beans) as Katara, Gordon Cormier (Two Sentence Horror Stories, The Stand) as Aang, Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-0) as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Train 48, Kim’s Convenience) as Uncle Iroh, Ken Leung (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rush Hour) as Commander Zhao, Dallas Liu (PEN15, Legendary Dudas) as Prince Zuko, Ian Ousley (Big Shot13 Reasons Why) as Sokka and Elizabeth Yu (Somewhere in Queens, May December) as Azula.

The series is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
