Netflix Series ‘You’ Wanted to Bring Back Jenna Ortega For Season Four

According to ComicBook, showrunner Sera Gamble (The Magicians) had initially hoped to bring back Jenna Ortega (Scream) for season four of You. With each season of the Netflix series having the character of Joe Goldberg relocate and assume new identity as he kills more new people, the showrunner wanted to bring back the character of Ellie Alves played by Ortega in season two. Although this is what was wanted, it will not come to pass as Ortega’s commitment to Wednesday will prevent her from joining You, as they are working on season two of the series.

Gamble shared with IndieWire, “We wanted to bring Ellie back and we heard, ‘Oh, Jenna is doing some show. It’s been just such a pleasure to see Jenna this year. We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again.”

According to ComicBook, it is very unclear how substantial Ortega’s role in the series would have been as well as the involvement with the main character. This does not mean the series can’t bring back any character that is not dead as anyone alive that knows Joe is fair game. It is a shame as many fans of the series would have loved to see Ortega in one of the horror projects that kicked off many more projects such as The Babysitter: Killer Queen, X, and Scream.

Back in 2019, Ortega shared with Teen Vogue, “It would be amazing to see Ellie come back and take control of her life. I just want her to be an even bigger badass. I don’t want her to come back and be extremely vulnerable and sad. We have to remember that even though people still find Joe somewhat charming, he’s evil, he does terrible things, and he gets away with them because of his gender and race and his position in society. Ellie has so much potential and so much talent that she shouldn’t waste because of him.”

Part one of You’s fourth season is now available to stream on Netflix.
