Netflix Series ‘Altered Carbon’ Cancelled After Second Season

The Netflix original series Altered Carbon was cancelled just 6 months after its second season premiere on February 27, according to The Hollywood ReporterIn contrast with the recent cancellations of Netflix shows The Society and I Am Not Okay With This, which were cancelled due to circumstances brought upon by the coronavirus pandemic, Altered Carbon was cancelled due to its low viewership.

Based on the novel by Richard K. Morgan and set 3 centuries in the future, Altered Carbon follows Takeshi Kovacs, played by Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, Hanna, Suicide Squad), in a society where death is no longer permanent. Kinnaman takes on the role as the sole survivor from a collection of interstellar warriors, most of which were defeated in a recent uprising. While Kinnman plays the lead role in season 1, Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Endgame) takes over Takeshi’s character in the second season. Alongside Kinnaman and Mackie, the series also stars Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, The Good Wife), Chris Conner (The Harvesting, Walk of Shame), Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse, The 100), Martha Higareda (No Manches Frida), and James Purefoy (The Following, Rome).

Altered Carbon is now added to the long list of shows recently cancelled by Netflix, including the aforementioned The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This, as well as Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show, Tuca and Bertie, although it was moved to Adult Swim, Turn Up Charlie, AJ and the Queen, Messiah, and Spinning Out.
